About

This website strives to correct misconduct and injustice now that new information has come to light.

Years ago, Steven Dew and others in University of Alberta administration permitted and facilitated Rik Tykwinski‘s termination and abuse of an instructor and the decimation of the learning environment.

  • An instructor’s reputation was destroyed.
  • An instructor was subjected to immense psychological abuse.
  • Thousands of students suffered.

About me

I am an award winning instructor who primarily taught first-year students in classes that ranged from 200 to 500 students. I taught at the UAlberta for five years, and ten years at another institution before the UAlberta. My interests are in the scholarship of teaching and learning, specifically science education and learning theory. Throughout my career, I was active with the Center for Teaching and Learning. I educated faculty and graduate students in an array of advanced instructional practices, including learner engagement, large classroom engagement, hybrid (hiflex) learning, interactive online instruction, and related topics. I would occasionally be contacted by faculty members asking for assistance improving their teaching. Most were encouraged to come by their Chairs or colleagues. All confidential. All free. Notably aspects of my career and instructional capabilities include

  • teaching over 20,000 students during my career
  • my student evaluation scores average of 4.8 out of 5.0, putting me in the top percentile of university instructors
  • multiple teaching awards
  • departmental evaluations of “exemplary” (including the year before Tykwinski took over)
  • publishing two textbooks

I was so good at engaging students in my first-year university classes that I was repeatedly asked to speak at graduation dinners, and I once had a fan club. They made t-shirts and everything. Yes, I have photos.
